The design task consisted of the modification and optimisation of the existing spaces of the historically listed train station, combined with new architectural elements, to function as a visitor reception area for the Mining Tourism Center. The design language is inspired by the unfamiliar forms and colours of the post mining landscape. The furniture elements used in combination with large format landscape photos and a bespoke film installation (also produced by Duncan McCauley) communicate the identity and aims of the tourism center and act as a prelude to the tours through the landscape itself.
