  • Red Dot Award 2020 – Archaeological Promenade in the James Simon Gallery

    The exhibition of the Archaeological Promenade designed by Duncan McCauley in the James Simon Gallery on Berlin's Museum Island has been awarded the Red Dot Award 2020.

  • Special Exhibition German Film Museum Frankfurt

    July 2020: Duncan McCauley is looking forward to designing the special exhibition "Catastrophe: What Comes After the End" at the German Film Museum in Frankfurt. 

  • Project Completion Strategy Paper for the Historical Museum Basel

    June 2020: Duncan McCauley has developed a new concept for the Historical Museum Basel up to the year 2030. In close collaboration with the museum, the project was finalised in the form of a strategy paper.

  • Competition Success Bavarian State Exhibition 2021

    December 2019: Duncan McCauley has won the competition for the Bavarian State Exhibition 2021 on Herrenchiemsee with the title "Götterdämmerung II – The End of the Monarchy in Bavaria". 

    Running time: May 7 – October 31 2021

  • Competition Win – Monestary Museum in the Benedictine Abbey Ottobeuren

    September 2019: Duncan McCauley has won the competition for the new permanent exhibition in the Monestary Museum in the Benedictine Abbey Ottobeuren in Bavaria, South Germany.
    We are looking forward to exploring the history of the Benedictines and creating a fantastic visitor-experience!
  • Archaeological Promenade – Exhibition Opening in the James-Simon-Gallery

    July 2019: We are happy to announce the opening of our new permanent exhibition in the James-Simon-Gallery!
    The first section of the Archaeological Promenade forms the beginning of a visit to the Museum Island Berlin. The presentation depicts the development of the museums and their collections.
  • Site Visit – Akhenaton Museum in Minya, Egypt

    July 2019: Site visit to the extraordinary Akhenaton Museum in Minya, Upper Egypt. Duncan McCauley is helping the State Museums of Berlin establish a basis for a German-Egyptian Joint Venture to complete the Museum
  • German Design Award 2019 – Diana: Her Fashion Story


    We received the German Design Award 2019 for our exhibition "Diana: Her Fashion Story" (Kensington Palace, London).

  • Competition Win - Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation Hamburg

    January 2019: Duncan McCauley has won the competition for the new permanent exhibition of The Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation.
    The Opening is planned for late 2020.
  • Competition Win - Industrial Museum Oberhausen

    December 2018 saw Duncan McCauley win the contract to redesign the permanent exhibition of the Industrial Museum in Oberhausen
  • Competition Win – Municipal Museum in Lindau at Lake Constance

    January 2018: Duncan McCauley has won the competition to plan the new permanent exhibition in the Municipal Museum in Lindau at Lake Constance in Bavaria, South Germany.

    We are looking forward to exploring the history of Lindau and creating a fantastic visitor-experience!

  • Competition Win - Middle Ages Section in the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) Berlin

    January 2018: Our design for the redevelopment of the Medieval Section of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin could assert in the competition
  • Completion - Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts) Berlin


    November 2018: In collaboration with Graphic Design Office Polyform, Duncan McCauley completed the realisation of an innovative new information system for the Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts) in Berlin. Through minimal yet effective alterations to the existing building, the new information system elevates and improves visitor orientation as well as the focus and prominence of the Academy on the Pariser Platz in Berlin.

  • “Open Ye The Gates” – Opening, New Synagogue Berlin / Centrum Judaicum

    July 2018: After 8 months of redevelopment the permanent exhibition "Tuet auf die Pforten" – “Open Ye The Gates” opens once more. The exhibition explores the eventful history of the synagogue that once was hailed as the most magnificent in Germany and also emphasises the different facets of the Berlin Jewish community.
  • Completion and Opening - Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth


    April 2018: To celebrate the reopening of the Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth, Duncan McCauley was tasked to produce an animated film installation. The installation allows visitors to image themselves in the past during their visit to this UNESCO World Heritage site.

  • Opening - Vischering Castle


    February 2018: Burg Vischering - Vischering Castle is open once again, 18 months after closing its gates for extensive renovations!
    Visitors are invited to come see the new permanent exhibition in the Castle as one of the Regional Projects “WasserBurgenWelt” - The World of Moated Castles.

  • German Design Award 2018 for Botticelli Reimagined

    We received the German Design Award 2018 for Botticelli Reimagined (Victoria and Albert Museum, London). A big, proud thank you to our project team and partners!
  • Museum planning in cooperation with the University of Leicester and the National Trust – Calke Abbey, Derbyshire

    In collaboration with the Research Centre for Museum and Galleries at the University of Leicester and the National Trust, Duncan McCauley is developing a visitor experience based on the themes of isolation and loneliness at Calke Abbey in Derbyshire (UK). The project aims at finding innovative ways of immersing the visitor in the authentic spirit of the place. We are looking forward to creating a unique experience at this stately home!

  • Successful participation in invited competition – Stralsund Museum, Stralsund (Germany)

    Duncan McCauley won the invited competition for the permanent exhibition at Stralsund Museum, one of the largest and most comprehensive collections on archaeology and cultural history in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. Our concept treats the former Dominican Monastery Saint Catharine as an exhibit in its own right, thus achieving a close integration of monastery and collections.

  • Successful tender for a new entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklingen Ironworks, Saarland (Germany)

    Guided by our experience with industrial heritage sites, our respectful treatment of the listed water tower complex prevailed in the international architectural competition. Our concept for the museum's new entrance hall preserves the integrity of the existing industrial spaces and machinery and compliments these with a dynamic new circulation route for visitors.
